Job Summary

The Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan invites applications for one-term lecturer positions for the 2025 summer half-term. Successful candidates will teach CSP 105, a writing focused seminar, to incoming first-year students as part of the 2025 CSP Summer Bridge Scholars Program. This 3 credit course will meet in person for two hours, three days per week. All sections of the course will meet on MWF, but teaching times will vary depending on the section to which the instructor is assigned.

Through reading, writing, discussion, and reflection, students in CSP 105 critically examine representations of race, ethnicity, class, and gender in literature, digital and print media, visual culture, or other elements of popular culture. While thematic emphasis will vary by instructor, all sections are designed to interrogate the convergences of identities across race, ethnicities, class, gender. Texts for this class may include films, TV shows, music videos, songs, short stories, essays, and poems. Student writing for this class will span a range of genres, including individual and group reflections, critical and creative essays, and multi-modal compositions (infographics, slideshows, podcasts, photo essays, and more).

All faculty teaching sections of CSP 105 are also paired with a course assistant, who will attend class and lead writing labs and workshops to support student writing and critical thinking.
