The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long‐term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. NERC’s area of responsibility spans the continental United States, Canada, and the northern portion of Baja California, Mexico. NERC is the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) for North America, subject to oversight by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and provincial authorities in Canada. Your Impact
The Total Rewards Specialist should have fundamental knowledge in a broad array of total rewards topics, including health benefits, retirement planning, compensation, career and developmental opportunities, and employee wellbeing programs. In this role, you will support the daily operations of the total rewards administration and provide the maximum level of service for NERC’s remote workforce. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.
Your Role
- Administers employee benefit programs, including health insurance, 401(k), 457(b), 457(f), short- and long-term disability insurance, spending accounts, life insurance, COBRA, FMLA, spot awards, and recognition.
- Collaborates with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure that benefit payments, deductions, and contributions are processed timely and accurately.
- Reconciles benefits statements.
- Completes governmental reporting requirements during the year.
- Communicates benefit program changes and updates.
- Coordinates distribution/communication of projects, including compliance reporting, retirement programs, and benefit open enrollment.
- Manages the annual review and renewal of all benefits programs.
- Administers, processes, and maintains the leave information for employees in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Reviews and submits payroll.
- Monitors and maintains tax compliance in adherence to state requirements.
- Conducts regular compensation benchmarking and analysis.
- Designs and manages wellbeing program initiatives.
- Maintains and administers compensation management systems to execute NERC’s Total Rewards Program.
- Houses and maintains market salary data per job code.
- Maintains and administers CompXL to support the execution of NERC’s annual merit and incentive programs
- Assesses benefits usage data and makes recommendations for program enhancements.
- Tracks HR metrics and generates reports to drive data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent, five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience (five-plus years) in total rewards, compensation, and benefits.
- Experience with ADP TotalSource preferred.
- Working knowledge of relevant multi-state laws and regulations.
- Highly proficient in MS Excel.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals at all organizational levels.

- The position may be based remotely but must be able to travel to NERC offices if needed. Reimbursement of travel expenses will be in accordance with the company’s travel and expense reimbursement policies.
