Description
Senior Electronic Technicians are responsible for repair, maintenance and installation of VHF, UHF, and licensed microwave radio transmission systems. These systems support voice and data connectivity across Union Pacific Network, along with other IP-based technologies, to provide real-time data collection. Accountabilities
- Operate controls and move levers that activate traffic signals and/or activates interlocking railroad signals to warn oncoming railroad trains
- Start motor of swing bridge and operate controls to turn bridge, giving either vessels or railroad trains passage
- Communicate and/or signal vessels to pass through opening. Inspects swing bridge and auxiliary equipment
- Clean, oil, and grease machinery. Write and submit maintenance work requisitions
- Other duties as assigned by manager
- Record names of vessels passing and number of trains crossing bridge
- Relay messages to vessels in waterway
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Prepare reports of accidents occurring on or to bridge
Qualifications - Required
- Basic computer skills
- Valid driver's license
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
- Able and willing to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks, and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations
- Able to assist and direct work of others
- Able to communicate and work well both independently and with others
- Able to perform basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversion of fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions to solve practical problems. In addition, applicants must be able to extract relevant information from tables, charts, graphs, and text
- Able to plan, organize, and track information and activities
- Able to understand and apply basic mechanical principles to solve mechanical problems
