SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Product Strategy, the Product Manager assures effective product management by becoming a subject/product/market matter expert and translating that knowledge into effective product lifecycle management. The Product Manager leverages their product and market expertise to assure that CMC has an industry-leading product portfolio. The Product Manager works closely with internal departments and external vendors to ensure CMC product viability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product Manager
- Strategically contribute to, maintain and grow the CMC Product Road Map to ensure that CMC delivers an industry leading product portfolio.
- Provide product matter expertise and translate that knowledge into effective product lifecycle management, including product specifications, positioning, pricing, improvements and profitability.
- Work with internal and external resources to ensure product viability during the development process and over the product's lifecycle.
- Conduct product market and sales analysis to understand the market performance of products and distill that analysis into actionable product management recommendations for product development. positioning, pricing opportunities and opportunities for product discontinuation.
- Engage with customers to understand and represent the Voice of the Customer (VOC) to guide product management efforts and assist in managing the product roadmap.
- Create and present the business case for new product and product development projects to justify the resources required and to appropriately prioritize projects.
- Define with supporting evidence, the product specifications for new products and for product improvements.
- Determine optimum product positioning and pricing for new and improved products in the context of the existing CMC product line and the competitive environment.
- Collaborate with product development staff, i.e., engineering department and prototype sewer(s) to ensure new product specifications are aligned with documented customer needs.
- Participate in new product Design Review process to ensure that product specifications are met in the product development process.
- Participate on product development teams to provide Product Management support as a new product moves through the development process.
- Collaborate with Marketing staff to ensure clarity and agreement on the appropriate target customer, value proposition, feature/benefits and applications to effectively launch each new product into the target market.
- Regularly communicate with CMC's customers, Customer Experience staff, Sales Team, the CMC Rescue School, Engineering and Operations staff to solicit product feedback.
- Assist in the execution of the CMC Product Roadmap, which lays out the new product development path and market launch timing required to meet corporate strategic objectives.
- Perform as Project Manager on multi-departmental teams for new product development or product improvement projects where necessary.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- The Product Manager must be able to deploy both strategic and tactical solutions to the product management function.
- The Product Manager must be able to effectively present ideas to individuals and groups while remaining diplomatic, curious, analytical, methodically organized, technically competent, and solutions oriented.
- Must possess a high level of critical thinking skills to effectively analyze our processes and provide viable solutions for new and existing products.
- Must have strong analytical skills including math and statistics, coupled with the ability to analyze data, to ensure accurate reporting and analytics pertaining to current market trends, product marketability and competitive positioning.
- Strong technical background - comfortable working with engineering to discuss trade-off between different systems designs, and the ability to read, understand and communicate technical documentation.
- Ability to effectively translate business and design requirements into specific product requirements.
- Strong project management skills: organized, high attention to detail, able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects.
- Demonstrated success managing priorities and collaborating with staff with varying work styles in cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Be a self-starter, a highly motivated person able to work in a fast-paced environment that is continually changing.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education and experience)
- Bachelor's degree required: in business, marketing, or engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in marketing and successfully executing the product management function in a manufactured goods environment desired
- Experience in rescue, work at height,and/or Outdoor industry desired
- A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Typical work environment is in a normal office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stand; and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls and includes extensive use of a computer. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 20 pounds. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision.
Business travel and work at off-premises locations under unpredictable conditions is required. This may include attending trade shows, CMC School Classes and using CMC Equipment in real-life settings, which may require physical strength to climb, lift and position equipment to demonstrate equipment in the environment typically used in.
