Job Summary
The Duke Cancer Institute and Duke's Division of Medical Oncology are actively recruiting for a Hospitalist Physician to integrate into our inpatient Medical Oncology / Solid Tumor Service. Hospitalist Physicians in Oncology are clinicians who provide clinical care for adult oncology patients admitted at Duke University Hospital.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Oncology Hospitalist physicians will supervise teams of advanced practice providers (APPs) engaged in direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility. During times of high census, the Oncology Hospitalist may need to engage in direct patient care activities. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to:
- Assessment, evaluation, pain and symptom management, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic recommendations, and medical decision making.
- Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, friends, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor- friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment.
- Extensive and on-going communications with primary oncology teams who routinely manage the cancer care of patients in the outpatient setting.
- Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
- Work to create a positive work culture within cross-departmental teams and align this work with other Oncology initiatives.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Graduate of an accredited MD or DO medical school
- Completion of Internal Medicine Residency Program
- Hematology/Oncology Fellowship preferred, but not required
Certification
- Board Eligible IM pending or recent graduates may apply, but otherwise American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification is required.
- Board Certified in Hematology and/or Oncology is preferred, but not required.
License
- License to practice medicine issued by the NCMB
- Federal and State DEA License
Experience
- Hospitalist and/or Hematology/Oncology experience preferred but welcome new grad applicants
Job Hours
- 16 shifts per month, approximately 7am - 7 pm
