Job Summary

The Data and Quality Improvement Project Manager will oversee multiple projects/initiatives/programs to support clinical care/operations, quality improvement, and research activities focused on pediatric populations and populations with diabetes and metabolic disease. The individual in this role requires the ability to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of leadership, clinicians, clinical staff, project managers, and business intelligence/data analysts to create and promote a culture of data-driven decision-making for the Department of Pediatrics and the Caswell Diabetes Institute. 

Key responsibilities include project management to support the development of data products and data governance for the Health Metrics and Learning Health Systems Program for the Department of Pediatrics and the Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI), as well as support for local and national Quality Improvement activities focused on Pediatric Diabetes. This position will report to Dr. Joyce Lee, Associate Chair for Health Metrics and Learning Health Systems for the Department of Pediatrics and Associate Director of Clinical Innovation and Informatics for the Caswell Diabetes Institute.

Responsibilities*

Manage projects for the Department of Pediatrics Health Metrics and Learning Health Systems Program

  • Responsible for the management, performance, and completion of multiple concurrent projects, and provide a single point of contact for those projects.
  • Manage project scope and develop detailed work plans, schedules, progress tracking and projections of key deliverables and maintain effective and transparent documentation. 
  • Coordinate and lead project-related meetings (agendas, handouts, scheduling, meeting notes/minutes) and liaise with and coordinate communication across key community members. 
  • Prepare written communications including presentations for a variety of audiences and coordinate and facilitate communication planning and deliverables for projects and initiatives.
  • Work closely with Senior Business Intelligence Analyst and leadership to ensure the development of customized data products to ensure data completeness, data accuracy, and effective data delivery to support the needs of data consumers.
  • Identify opportunities for data consumers to answer their questions through use of self-service tools that already exist across the organization.
  • Ensure appropriate data governance before releasing data for projects, through guidance from leadership, as well as knowledge about IRB applications, Data Use Agreements, and/or Business Associate Agreements. 

Support effective data development and data governance for the Department of Pediatrics and the Caswell Diabetes Institute

  • Possess a broad knowledge of how electronic health records are utilized by health system staff, clinicians, and operational leaders and how this translates to data and data quality for analytics.
  • Collaborate with analytics partners on the creation and maintenance of high-quality, governed data products including data marts and Tableau dashboards, to be used and reused by data consumers in the pediatrics and diabetes/metabolism communities. 
  • Create and maintain documentation to support data governance, including internal documentation of systems and operating procedures, and documentation for end-users including data dictionaries and user guides. Communicate changes to data products (data marts and Tableau dashboards) to data stewards and data consumers.
  • In collaboration with leadership, lead virtual/in-person training for data stewards and data consumers and develop and design training materials focused on the use of self-service data tools (primarily Tableau dashboards).
  • Identify opportunities for the design, development, and optimization of data products and tools for increasing data literacy through different modalities including documentation for end-users, webinars and workshops, and improved user interface designs of the data products and tools.
  • In collaboration with leadership, coordinate and manage a Data Stewardship program for clinicians and staff to develop data literacy to effectively use data products and tools for data-driven decision-making.

Support activities for the Pediatric Diabetes Quality Improvement Program

  • In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of clinic faculty and staff, coordinate and support QI project implementation and evaluation.
  • Serve as the site coordinator for the national T1D Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative which includes data sharing; convening the local improvement group of faculty, staff, and fellows; and participation in quality improvement working groups. 
  • Work closely with hospital and divisional leadership and analysts to compile data, perform quality checks, and prepare final survey responses for the Pediatric Endocrinology section of the U.S. News & World Report annual survey.

Required Qualifications*

  • Project Intermediate Manager: Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Examples of work products may be requested.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering information, analyzing data, and problem-solving, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in preparing communications, documents, materials, and forms for distribution to a range of internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and under general supervision and a track record of completing projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills exercised with sound judgment, an ability to anticipate emergent issues and needs, and provide appropriate recommendations.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Strong analytical ability to gather and summarize data and information.
  • Familiarity with Epic, electronic medical record systems and self-service data tools, including Tableau dashboards, as well as other tools like Epic Slicer Dicer or Data Direct.
  • Basic skills in building dashboards and data visualizations in Tableau is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with user interface/user experience design methods.
  • Training or certification in quality improvement methodology.

Background Screening
