The Loss Prevention & Safety department at PetSmart includes leaders and certified practitioners focused on workplace health & safety, food safety and pet health & safety compliance; as well as asset protection and investigations across stores, distribution centers, digital and corporate offices. In partnership with leaders across the business, we keep the pack safe while enabling Anything for Pets!

Hybrid Position:

This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.

SUMMARY

The Asset Protection and Safety Program Specialist will play a critical role in fostering our culture of safety. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs, resources, and training that align with our commitment to Keeping the Pack Safe and doing Anything for Pets. Through strategic partnership, program execution, and continuous improvement, the specialist will support the well-being of associates and pets, mitigate risk and manage organizational safety initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive Asset Protection and Safety programs to drive PetSmart’s culture of safety
• Maintain training video catalog and film monthly content with cross-functional teams
• Lead the execution of key Asset Protection and Safety initiatives across stores, distribution centers, and home offices
• Partner with investigations to analyze incident trends and develop proactive strategies, training or processes to prevent reoccurrence
• Create and maintain department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations
• Serve as the point of contact for the Asset Protection and Safety mailbox, addressing inquiries and providing prompt solutions
• Identify and address opportunities for process improvement to enhance safety protocols, resource delivery and overall program effectiveness
• Monitor safety trends to implement innovative solutions that reduce incidents and drive associate engagement
• Develop and deliver visually engaging training materials, tools and resources that educate associates on safety policies, procedures, and best practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety messaging and resources are effectively communicated and accessible

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Associate’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Business, Education or equivalent work experience
• 2-4 years of experience in asset protection, safety program management, or training and development roles within a retail, distribution or corporate environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) preferred
• Experience using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator preferred but not required
• Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills to deliver training and process updates effectively to all levels of the organization
• Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• OSHA 30-Hour Certification preferred; certification can be obtained within 90 days of hire
• Loss Prevention Qualified (LPQ) preferred; certification can be obtained within 90 days of hire
