Job Summary

The Department of Psychology seeks applicants for a full-time Academic Program Manager responsible for management of the Department of Psychology's undergraduate program, including staff supervision, regulatory compliance, and implementation and evaluation of program initiatives, in support of various constituents such as students, faculty, and department leadership.

The Undergraduate Program Manager reports to the Department of Psychology's Student Academic Affairs Director.

Responsibilities*

Program Administration and Student Services (40%)

  • Collaborates with the Student Academic Affairs Director to maintain and develop the undergraduate program, including budgetary matters
  • Implements, monitors, and evaluates undergraduate program goals that align with the objectives of departmental leadership
  • Reviews program processes and introduces improvements
  • Provides data, advice, and support in the development and implementation of departmental initiatives
  • Advises on course offerings and enrollment matters
  • Oversees staff administration of the department's thesis program
  • Provide oversight of staff administering the department's subject pool and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty and students in the department's experiential learning programs

Supervision (20%)

  • Maintains a trained staff in support of undergraduate programs
  • Oversees performance planning and sets yearly expectations in alignment with departmental goals
  • Anticipates staff training needs and supports professional development activities
  • Manages workload and assesses the capability to provide support for various ongoing and emerging projects
  • Facilitates communication between program staff and with other offices in the department and college
  • Reinforces expectations by modeling service standards and discussing program goals and mission
  • Hires, trains, and coaches staff in order to maintain a robust team capable of addressing the needs of students and the department

Advising (20%)

  • Oversees the maintenance and development of the undergraduate advising program for about 1,500 students
  • Explores ways in which the undergraduate advising program must evolve to meet the needs of varied student populations
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and develops initiatives that will contribute to the maintenance of a premier advising program
  • Contributes to student learning and development through coaching, interactive programming, and outreach efforts with students at all phases of their undergraduate academic careers
  • Provides training, support, and guidance to faculty, staff, and peer advisors

Outreach and Events (20%)

  • Demonstrates a high regard for student success by providing accessible and accurate information about the department and undergraduate majors
  • Deploys appropriate technologies to create efficiencies and enhance the delivery of student resources, initiatives, services, and activities
  • Advisee and supports to student organizations
  • Organizes events that meet the needs of varied student populations at different stages in their undergraduate careers, ranging from orientation sessions to commencement; these might include career fairs, alumni panels, and research forums

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree.  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of working effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff, managing confidential materials and situations, working independently to manage competing interests in a demanding, fast-paced setting, and demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and database software applications.

Desired Qualifications*

Master's Degree in higher education, psychology, or a related field which includes the broad-based study of student development, social identity, and student learning; five years of experience advising and engaging with varied student groups; some supervisory experience; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to multiple audiences through a variety of mediums; familiarity with LS&A and University of Michigan student administration procedures and policies.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $56,000 to $70,000, please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.
